Monrovia, Liberia | August 28, 2026 \u2014 The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Liberia Chapter held a follow-up partnership engagement with the National Commission on Disabilities (NCD) on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the NCD offices in Congo Town, Monrovia, to strengthen collaboration toward the meaningful inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the FAWE-Mastercard Foundation Phase II Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The engagement built on previous discussions between the two institutions and focused on strengthening coordination, expanding access, and ensuring that qualified Persons with Disabilities can benefit from opportunities provided under the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of its commitment to inclusive programming, the FAWE Liberia Chapter is working to ensure that at least 5% of the program\u2019s 650 beneficiaries are Persons with Disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Strengthening Disability Inclusion<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the engagement, Apostle Dr. Aaron J. Wright Sr. – Executive Director of the NCD expressed appreciation for FAWE Liberia\u2019s intentional efforts to promote disability inclusion and welcomed the opportunity for stronger collaboration between the two institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NCD leadership, however, raised concerns about whether the proposed 5% target adequately reflects the number of Persons with Disabilities in need of educational and economic opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response, the Executive Director of FAWE Liberia, Hon Millias Z. Sheriff thanked the NCD for appreciating FAWE Liberia in the implementation of the FAWE-Mastercard Foundation Phase II Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further stressed that the 5% is the threshold for PWDs but there’s still a window to allow more PWDs if they should take advantage of the opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Executive Director further clarified that the benefits available to successful beneficiaries extend beyond tuition and school-fee support, highlighting the broader opportunities provided through the Mastercard Foundation Phase II Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Partnership to Support Access and Participation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both institutions recognized the importance of establishing a more structured and sustainable partnership to support the identification, outreach, recruitment, and participation of qualified Persons with Disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To strengthen this collaboration, FAWE Liberia and the NCD agreed on the need to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will provide a formal framework for continued coordination and partnership between the two institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NCD also expressed its willingness to support awareness-raising and information-sharing efforts to ensure that qualified Persons with Disabilities are informed about the program and encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the immediate follow-up, FAWE Liberia set Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as the final deadline for the submission of completed application forms from the NCD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through stronger collaboration with the National Commission on Disabilities, FAWE Liberia chapter seeks to promote greater awareness, access, and participation while advancing more inclusive and sustainable programming under the Mastercard Foundation Phase II Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proposed MOU is expected to further institutionalize the partnership and provide a foundation for continued joint efforts to advance disability inclusion in Liberia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
