Monrovia, Liberia — October 2026

As part of efforts to conclude the selection process for the FAWE-Mastercard Foundation Phase II Program, FAWE Liberia conducted home visits from September 26 to October 3, 2026, across 10 counties in Liberia to verify applicants’ information and obtain additional details relevant to the selection process.

The exercise targeted applicants whose application forms contained missing or incomplete information that required further clarification. Through the visits, FAWE Liberia’s field teams sought to document essential facts about applicants, verify information submitted during the application process, and gain a better understanding of their circumstances and community environments.

During the visits, team members travelled to applicants’ homes, engaged with individuals connected to them, and observed their living conditions and surroundings. These interactions provided an opportunity to gather additional information that could support the assessment of applicants’ eligibility for the bursary program.

The exercise covered Montserrado, Nimba, Lofa, Bong, Margibi, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, and Sinoe counties.

Strengthening Transparency and Accountability

The home visits formed part of FAWE Liberia’s broader efforts to promote a fair, transparent, inclusive, and accountable recruitment and selection process. By verifying relevant information and seeking clarification where necessary, the organization aimed to strengthen the quality of information available to support decisions on bursary participants.

The exercise also provided field team members with an opportunity to engage with applicants and their communities, offering additional context about applicants’ circumstances beyond the information recorded on their application forms.

Increasing Access to Educational Opportunities

The FAWE-Mastercard Foundation Phase II Program seeks to increase access to quality higher education – universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) opportunities for 650 marginalized young women and men across 10 counties in Liberia through bursary support.

The home visits represent one of the steps undertaken to strengthen the selection process and support informed decisions regarding eligible participants.

Through this initiative, FAWE Liberia continues to advance its commitment to promoting equitable access to education and creating greater opportunities for marginalized young women and men to pursue higher education and skills development.
